Renn
The village boy Svartmyr taught to stand, who grew into his village's protector.
Archetype
He asked for a sword and was given a staff. That is the whole lesson.
Loyal to home, willing to die trying, and taught to stand instead.
The story
Renn walked into a tavern to beg a legend for help. Svartmyr asked him what would happen when he failed; Renn said he would die knowing he tried. 'Not bad, kid.' A day of brutal drilling later, Renn stood his ground against a bandit with a staff and held. He never forgot the truth the wanderer left him with: purpose is not given, it is found, and then it has to be lived.
